Books I Have Loved

Books help us grow. They teach us invaluable life lessons, offer comfort and joy, a place to hide and heal for those who need it. Books make us think and feel, and sometimes even question our own beliefs. Books don’t necessarily offer instant gratification, like so many young people are used to these days. Reading takes time, but a good book has the power to make hours and days disappear. A book is like a movie that’s only showing in your head, it feeds our imagination, helps us see things in a new light. Reading is magical.

Books I have loved.

Andrew Smith - Ghost Medicine

Adam Rapp - 33 Snow fish

S.E. Hinton - Rumble Fish

Andreas Steinhofel - The Center of the World

J.D. Salinger - The Catcher in the Rye

Aidan Chambers - Postcards From No Man’s Land

Sonya Hartnett - Surrender

Suzanne Kingsbury - The Summer Fletcher Greel Loved Me

James Howe - The Watcher

Celia Rees - The Wish House

Thanks for the list. I, of course, know Catcher In the Rye. And I recognize the watcher and Rumble Fish, but I'm not sure I've read either of them. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for visiting my new little blog - I really love yours - I've only had a chance to glance through it but it's obvious you have a gift for beautiful writing. And I'm right there with you on several of these books. Others I haven't read but would like to!

I haven't read any of these books
:( Except Catcher in the Rye which I LOVE. It's one of my all time favorite books for sure. You writing is beautiful, especially in opposite of running. You are so brave and I hope you find a place and your comfort zone where you feel safe.

I really hope you do participate in the GLBT reading challenge, I'm excited for it! Thanks for stopping by Reading in Color :)

Hey Charlie, Thanks for including my book on your list. It's an honor to be in such company; but such an incredible gift when a reader makes a connection to something I've written. Thank you very much, my friend.

Of all of these the only ones I've read are Rumble Fish and Catcher in the Rye. I prefer some of Hinton's other works, especially The Outsiders. I know that book is maybe not her best, but I absolutely loved Ponyboy. He really spoke to my heart. And of course the Frost poem quoted means a lot to me, too.

I didn't like Catcher in the Rye when I read it in high school. Too depressing. But I've read it a couple times since and now I appreciate it. I think it hit too close to home the first time. I didn't want the confirmation that life was actually that bleak, and I needed to know that Holden was going to be okay. But now my heart just goes out to that poor kid.
